Burning Embers

Picture: A boy blowing on an ember to light a candle by El Greco

Burning embers,

Perfect glow, amber light:

It’s my train, bolting through the night.

City lights enliven my limbs

And heart, under the mantlepiece

Of my shoulders, empowered by the storms,

Carrying with joy the weight of the endless

Journey,

As if it was weightless, with the lightness of song,

Songs of love and power,

Weaved in the fabric of existence

That does not admit nonexistence,

With a strong interdiction

Of spoiling the graces, ever-gifted

Under enigmatic pretenses,

But this is not a riddle,

Not a headache nor a jigsaw

To be figured out, for figuring it out

Is unwrapping your presents

And throw away the content with the wrapping,

The baby with the mother.

Burning embers,

Suave aroma, falsetto fading out

And into the lungs of the loving,

Loving and therefore loved

Beyond measure, for measure is only

A label that slips away when applied

To the oil-rich, nourishing fruits

Of Creation. Sticky fingers grabbing

With joy the thighs of Creation,

Bountiful in all of its forms and shapes,

A jigsaw where the pieces match and mismatch

To the will of the Master Plan that shall not be

Exposed and can’t be exposed;

So create, merge, and submerge yourself

In the reviving waters of all that is

That will never extinguish these

Burning embers.
