The Ciborium

I hold high above my head

The ciborium of my heart.

Goats and kids run free,

Filled with gluttony

For fresh blades of grass;

Traveling ducks display

Exotic coiffures;

Fog-white egrets stroll

And forage;

Chrome-blue kingfisher,

Veritable alien,

In a parabolic chute

Above Mother Water, still and fresh.

Close encounter:

Heron-king and Herons-priest;

No words exchanged, yet

The message is sent across.

The priest is dismissed

On a Eucharistic quest of ordinary

Magnitude; he seeks the body of God

Aspersed with dew; he finds, he plucks.

Goats and kids, unknowingly waiting

For their sacrament; the Herons-priest

Umbly bows down and feeds the hungry;

Blades made to heal and not to cut,

In holy communion with all that is,

Green with life, wet with love,

Love, unafraid to be unrequited.

I hold high above my head

The ciborium of my heart.

Herons
